Music that glorifies God in its purest form is found when melody meets lifestyle rooted in Scripture, where passion and creativity collide. Enter Joshua Jamison, an artist standing at the intersection of truth and love by way of melody. Joshua is one of many young artists intent on leading his generation to the source of all truth and creativity. He is one of few artists to diversify his music in a way that breaks the mold of music that glorifies God and stretches the boundaries of modern worship.
Jamison cultivated his love for music at an early age when he started playing guitar and has been ushering people into the presence of Christ through music ever since. He has led worship alongside artists such as Jaime Jamgochian and Jon Owens, opened for Thousand Foot Krutch, and performed at conferences and events ranging from UNITE and Campus Harvest to Ichthus Festival and the Every Nation World Conference in the Philippines.
Though he enjoys sharing his unique blend of music with any audience, he has a heart for students and young adults; and the church is the heartbeat of his work. But make no mistake. He’s not here to just entertain. “I haven’t done my job if people are only entertained. My first responsibility is to love God and to love people,” says Jamison. “I want provide people with a memorable experience with truth and the one true Living God.”
His songs are deeply rooted in Scripture, the source of truth and inspiration in Jamison’s artful pursuits—and in his life. “I want to make sure people are experiencing God’s Word in my songs, that faith would take root in their lives, and that their faith would affect those around them.”
Today, Joshua is one of six worship leaders at Bethel World Outreach Church, an Every Nation congregation, made up of a wide array of people from an assortment of ethnicities, ages and backgrounds. But it’s this vast multiplicity that influences Jamison’s music.
“I love leading worship at Bethel and have been ruined by its diversity,” he shares. “I believe it’s a picture of what heaven will look like. Just like its people, the style of worship needs to vary to touch and unite everyone in these corporate settings. I add my own flavor to the songs I lead.” Citing Hillsong United and Israel Houghton as influences, his unique essence incorporates pinches of hip-hop, acoustic pop and modern worship, among other diverse styles of experimentation.
“I think our generation is ready for a more diverse expression musically when it comes to worship,” says Jamison. “I believe worship songs should be able to go toe-to-toe with what would normally catch our attention outside of Sunday. The earth is His and all its fullness; that goes for music.”
No matter what form music takes in his life, Joshua Jamison’s stance is unwavering. It’s evident who he serves. His music reflects his heart for service, ministry and the pursuit of a God-centered life.
“I want to be a part of what the Holy Spirit is doing on earth and see the people of God shake off apathy and be the answer and the truth this world needs to see,” Jamison affirms. “I do what I do to see lives transformed. I’m not in this to be famous. I just want to give what God has given me to others.”
